Looks like Apple is doubling down on iOS encryption due to government hacking, according to the New York Times. As we already know the FBI is fighting for a backdoor into Apple products which wouldn't require a password. Even if that would happen, Apple could change their encryption method and the government would need to engage in another legal battle to earn a way around the new model. A change in security would also likely close a hole in Apple product privacy. For example, the ability to access iCloud backups stored on Apple servers.
