Nintendo has applied to trademark the sound of Mario collecting a coin. This sound has been used by other parties aside from Nintendo and it looks like the company is now trying to take action in regards to it’s use (why they haven’t done this before is beyond me). It will be interesting to see if the trademark will be accepted. The trademark has been applied in Japan on the J-Plat Pat website, and you can see a screen shot below.
