Sony has announced a price and release window for PlayStation VR. The headset will cost $399 and will release in October 2016. Sony Computer Entertainment president Andrew House ran down the specs that players can expect, when the headset arrives this fall. The tech specs have not changed recently, and the display will push 120Hz refresh rate.
- Display: OLED
- Screen Size: 5.7"
- Resolution: 1920xRGBx1080 (960xRGBx1080 per eye)
- Refresh Rate:120 Hz, 90 Hz
- Sensors: 360 Degree Tracking / 9 LEDs
- Field of View: Approximately 100 degrees
- Latency: Less than 18 ms
- Control: Dual Shock 4 or PlayStation Move
- Audio: 3D
Sony says that 230 developers are working on content, and traditional games will work in theatre mode. When the headset will launch alongside 50 games during the launch window. You’ll need a PlayStation 4 you need to run the headset (obviously) and a PlayStation Camera (not included and cost $60). This does not include Move controllers should you want them (PS Move’s Motion Controller costs $40 and the Navigation Controller costs $30). So if you want everything it’ll cost you $930 (which isn’t bad if you compare it to the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive). What do you think of PlayStation VR ? Are you going to get it when it launches ? For me this is definitely something I need to try before I buy it.
