It looks like Apple could finally get rid of the 16GB iPhone as early as this fall. Additionally, Apple is ending its practice of releasing a significant iPhone refresh every 2 years. Instead, the phone will follow a 3 year design cycle. According to Japanese site Nikkei, the “iPhone 7” will look like the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s. Instead, the next major iPhone design update will occur in 2017. Why are they doing this you may ask? “The move is largely due to smartphone functions having little room left for major enhancements. A slowing market is another factor.” The next iPhone is expected to feature an improved camera and battery capacity. In other news, a Technology analyst has posted on Chinese social media that the iPhone 7 will feature 32GB storage as the $199 base model. Apple iPhones have featured 16GB as the entry level model since the iPhone 5 in 2012. The iPhone 7 and “iPhone 7 Plus” are expected to launch this September.
UPDATE 7/6/16 - The Wall Street Journal has confirmed that the iPhone 7 will start with 32GB of storage, replacing the useless 16GB as the base tier.
