Will there be a PlayStation 5 ? Well according to Shuhei Yoshida, the President of Worldwide Studios at Sony Interactive Entertainment, there may not be one. In a recent episode of The Game Informer Show, game designer Lorne Lanning was on the show to discuss the upcoming remake of the classic Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus, along with several other topics. In a part of the show he said that he talked to Shuhei Yoshida at the DICE event last year, and told him the following:
“I said, ‘Well, what does the PlayStation 5 look like?’ And he said, ‘You mean if…’ And I was like, ‘Whoa. Are you willing to say that on stage?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, it’s an if.'”
You can listen to the part about the PS5 at around the 45:00 mark below. It’s definitely interesting to think about considering how the industry is. With digital games, streaming games and mobile, consoles could be a thing of the past and just be an app you download to your TV or computer, etc. Hopefully that doesn’t happened, it’s just food for thought in my eyes.
